"Resident Manager, Property Manager, Community Manager… Whatever your name plate reads, the most important and impactful title we wear is the one which includes COMMUNITY. As 'Property Managers,' we have many responsibilities per our job descriptions, but they really do not focus on the most important duty we have in this role and that is the one where we build community! Building community is one of the most important and impactful things you can do to combat criminal activity in your communities, shut the back door, and increase your bottom line. How does this affect my bottom line positively? When residents feel a sense of community, they take care of their apartment homes, they take care of the grounds, they look out for one another, and the most impactful way…they RENEW LEASES!

There are so many ways that you can build community within your community. Engagement is one of the easiest and most impactful ways. There are so many resident events that you can host to engage your residents, both virtually and in person. There are many resources that you can use for ideas on hosting resident events. Residentevents.com, watchyourbusinesssprout.com, and National Day Calendar are just a few. Include local businesses, non-profit organizations, and supplier partners to assist with keeping costs down. When residents become neighbors, they are more likely to spend time together building relationships, look out for one another, and 'see something and say something' (hence bringing your crime down). The goal should always be to offer a space where strangers become neighbors, neighbors become friends, who in time become like family. They become so comfortable in their homes and community that they continue to renew their leases, saving you money."
